For the first time in history (God knows why) NYFW saw a revolutionary collection from Jakarta based Anniesa Hasibuan which included all of the models wearing hijab. In Jakarta, almost every native wears a hijab so obviously those who are fashion focused want to style them properly, this is why it perplexes me that this hasn’t been done before. I absolutely love this collection for the micro-pleats, embroidery and pastels anyway (especially the velvet flares!) but bringing the designer’s and so many other people’s culture into it gives it a wonderful twist and it was definitely as standout way to end NYFW.
It would be so interesting to see other religions and cultures integrated into collections at fashion week.
